American Film Institute cites Duck Soup (1933) as the first great sound comedy, but the Marx Brothers already made the excellent Animal Crackers (1930) and Horse Feathers (1932)
Nice to see some Robert Grieg (Hives) candid material.

Chico’s not sure if that’s a compliment or not. Coming from Groucho, it seems unlikely.
Chico and Harpo Marx clowning with great Laurel and Hardy foil Edgar Kennedy, he of the “Slow burn.”
His hat also is an expert at the slow burn.
MORE CLASSIC THAN MOST
okay i really dont think i’m imagining this but the song “new york” from how to marry a millionare is the same tune as “freedonia’s going to war” from duck soup and i can’t find anything on this and why they are literally the same tune. i cant even find if the same guy did the music or it was just copied or whatever but i KNOW it’s the same tune and it’s really weird and i demand an explanation
I’m a music teacher, I can check it out! Cool.
I’d say that the riff “To war, to war, to war we’re gonna go” is pretty much directly quoted, whether intentionally or unconsciously I don’t know, though it’s a fairly common mixolydian gesture anyway.
Here’s “New York”:
