“King Yakko”

This whole episode is one long reference to the Marx Brothers in general and their 1933 classic Duck Soup in particular. To wit:

  • An unlikely leading character is appointed leader of a country
  • A neighboring country led by a jerk declares war on the first country
  • Singing and slapstick ensue
  • Yakko, who already has a lot in common with Groucho Marx, is at his Groucho-iest here with lines like “Citizens, I stand before you because if I stood behind you, you couldn’t see me.”

Hooray for President Firefly!
