okay i really dont think i’m imagining this but the song “new york” from how to marry a millionare is the same tune as “freedonia’s going to war” from duck soup and i can’t find anything on this and why they are literally the same tune. i cant even find if the same guy did the music or it was just copied or whatever but i KNOW it’s the same tune and it’s really weird and i demand an explanation

I’d say that the riff “To war, to war, to war we’re gonna go” is pretty much directly quoted, whether intentionally or unconsciously I don’t know, though it’s a fairly common mixolydian gesture anyway.
