The Marx Brothers 5th feature film premiered in Des Moines, IA on 12 November 1933, before wider release in the US 5 days later.

Duck Soup (written by Bert Kalmar, Nat Perrin, Harry Ruby, and Arthur Sheekman) was the last film to include Zeppo, and the last film the brothers made for Paramount.

The film received mixed reviews and poor box office performance (compared to previous Marx Brothers films – it was the 6th highest-grossing film of 1933) on its initial release, but is now considered one of their best (if not the best) film.
